THE LIFE OF A BEGGAR

I am quite sure that all of us have encountered a beggar at some point in our lives. But the main question is now, how did you react when seeing them?

            When I was a little girl, I would often be afraid of them and to be quite honest, feel a little bit disgust with them because quite often beggar would look like someone who never bathed in years..many years. Usually. And plus, my dad always told me that actually beggar, they can go find a job. Earn some money to feed themselves. They are just plain lazy. Why did my dad say so? Because some of the beggars that we've met were quite healthy looking. They pretty much have every organs and have every limbs, arms, legs and so on. But still they have to result in a humiliating way of wanting to get money from others sympathy. That was my perspective before. Now, that little perspective seems to change 360 degrees, not only for me but my whole family after we went to a country full of beggar.

          In that country, the beggars are majority from the children population. I'm guessing around the age group of 7-15. When I first step my feet on that country and met these people, I was like..."Oh, NO!!! Not again...why so many of them now??". Every time, they would hold out their arms to beg us, passers by to give them money with a puppy and sad look on their faces. "Well, I'm not someone who can just simply give out my money to some strangers...duhh". The one thing, that I noticed about them is that most of them would have both arms amputated (in a weird way...) and they would walk in a large group led by one woman. When seeing these, I don't really thought much about it until one day, when we were walking to go to a shop and have to go through the street with full of beggars.

          One mak cik (middle age lady) walked up to me and say,
" Alah..menipu je semua ni!! Ni semua pembohong belaka!! Budak tu bukan potong tangan pun. Dia cuma letak tangan dia kat belakang kepala. Jadi,nampaklah mcm tangan tu kudung. MENIPU!! Dia ingat orang tak tahu ke??"
Ehmm, after hearing that, it got me thinking. IT'S TRUE!!! *why don't you try it, folding your arms and placed it behind your head. It will look like your arms are amputated if you covered them WELL*

          Not only that, I also saw a man, tried to check their arms whether it is true the arms are cut or not in a harsh way. Even for me, I think that guy was a bit rude on checking the kid. emm..

         Before we leave the country, there was a talk organized by the organizer of the trip. One talk really moved me and as a matter of fact, it touches the whole audience there. It went something like this....

"I am quite sure that you have seen a lot of beggars in your stay here. They may not be to your liking, asking money and all. And if you look closely, it is true that they are actually under a syndicate. They are forced to do so. But one thing for sure, they are from a very troubled background and certainly they live in poverty. Maybe because of extreme poverty and there is no other way to get money, they have resorted in begging. If I ask you ladies and gentlemen, I am quite sure that no one will go and beg asking for money from strangers if they can get a proper job to earn money for their living. They are also like us . They know that begging is the WORST OF ALL. But they have no other options left. So, what I am asking you all now is that RESPECT THEM. No matter who they are, they are still Allah's beautiful creation and we are all the same. Second, do not hesitate to give them some of your money because even Allah S.W.T. has mentioned in the holy Quran that IF YOU GIVE SOME OF YOUR PROPERTY/MONEY TO THEM WHO REALLY NEED IT, THEN I (ALLAH) WILL DOUBLE THE AMOUNT. So, do not worry to give even just RM1 to them. They will get the benefit and so do you.

           Sometimes, if you realized there may be times where you are in a difficult situation and can't seems to find any solution to it. For example, you are having a really bad ill or you are having money problems that never seems to stop or end. Have you ever stop and wonder why? Maybe because of these little things that you take for granted has taken a toll in your life. Remember little things lead to bigger things in life. "

After that talk, I really really completely change my perceptions towards the beggars. Now, I have realized what it is meant by BE GRATEFUL OF WHAT YOU HAVE AND HAD IN LIFE. Because you will never now, when Allah S.W.T. is going to take them all back. ^_^ Let's say ALHAMDULILLAH for all the blessings that we have gained.

THE STATISTICS JOKE

One day, there was a fire in a wastebasket in the Dean's office and in rushed a physicist, a chemist and a statistician. The physicist immediately starts to work on how much energy would have to be removed from the fire to stop the combustion. The chemist works on which reagent would have to be added to the fire to prevent oxidation. While they are doing this, the statistician is setting fires to all other wastebaskets in the office.

"What are you doing?", they demanded.
"Well, to solve the problem, obviously you need a larger sample size" the statistician replied.

Then, they all started to argue and fight with each other until the fire got bigger and bigger, engulfing the Dean's office. It was way too late to save the office but luckily, the physicist, chemist and statistician manage to get out of the danger in time.

Not long, came the Dean with a furious look on his face. He was so angry that he slapped all 3 guys' face without mercy. He slapped them for a good 30 seconds. *ouch!* After he felt content, he asked them what actually happened.

PHYSICIST: Sir, actually there was a fire in one of your wastebaskets. So, we tried to put the flame out. I was calculating how much energy needed to stop the combustion, he (chemist) works on which reagent is the best to use and he (statistician) suddenly set fires to the other wastebaskets!!! After much calculation using laws of motion and work energy power, I've found out that it was the Statistician whom we should put the blame on.

DEAN: IS THIS TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????/

CHEMIST: Absolutely 100% true sir. Even I have tested the chemicals contained in his sweat to be full of guilt and idiocy. 

STATISTICIAN: Sir, you can't just blame it on me. I was just trying to help. I found that I don't have much data to solve the problem. So, that's why I set fire to all the wastebasket. That's what I learn from the chapter Population and Sample. I'm just putting it into practice.

DEAN: YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!! Why do you have to use Population and Sample??? This is not the right situation to use it. You should have use either Probability or Hypothesis Testing!!!!!

STATISTICIAN: Oh, I haven't yet to learn Hypothesis Testing sir and it looks like that I've forgotten about Probability since I'm so caught up with Population and Sampling. Maybe next time....no wonder I felt so weird when doing the mathematical part. Hmmm...

The Dean is now bursting with flame like an erupting volcano. He slapped the Statistician hard on the face and asked him to leave the campus once and for all. Before the Statistician left, he said

"Sir, if I am ever to be back to this college, would you let me take the Chemistry course? I think I'll be a way better chemist than a statistician. See you guys later!"

DELIMA ILMU

Baru tersedar sesuatu semalam. Sesuatu yang mungkin ramai daripada kita tak sedar...sesuatu yang amat menyedihkan hati apabila direnung kembali....

          Setelah selesai menyempurnakan solat terawih bersama beberapa sahabat, kami pun berjalan bersama-sama menuju ke rumah masing2. Dalam perjalanan, seorang sahabat berkata,

"Eh, aku rasa sedihlah tadi.....cuba korang bayangkan, kita ni bolehlah dikatakan daripada golongan intelek, cerdik pandai. Tapi kalau dalam bab2 agama ni mesti hancur... tgk aje tadi. Takde sorang pun yang nk jadi imam utk solat isyak and terawih. Itu pun kena paksa barulah nak. Kalau jawab soalan2 yang berkaitan akademik mcm bio ke, maths..laju je jawabnya. Tapi kalau bab2 agama mesti takde sape yang beria2 nak jawab. Peliklah aku..sedih pun ada gak. Aku pun bukanlah alim sgt, pandai sangat dalam bab2 agama ni tp akanlah semua pun sama mcm aku. Kalau macam tu payahlah..."

Betul juga kata kawan aku yang sorang ni. Orang zaman dahulu, time zaman Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. bukan setakat bertungkus-lumus cari ilmu dunia malah ilmu akhirat pun dicari. Kita ni ckp pasal agama je mesti akan ada org kata, "Eh, ko takyahlah nak alim sangat. Aku tahulah!!!" Ye ke tahu? Ke sebab sombong and angkuh? Dah tersimpang jauh dah kita sekarang ni.

           Ini tak bermaksud yang kita semua ni kena focus kat agama je. Bukan macam tu...maksudnya kena "balance"lah dua2. Kalau kita hebat dalam hal akademik, kita juga mesti hebat dalam agama. Barulah ada EQUILIBRIUM!! Malah, Allah S.W.T. pun menggalakkkan kita untuk menuntut ilmu dunia dan akhirat. Jadi, rajin2kanlah diri tu untuk melengkapkan diri dengan ilmu2 agama. Tak rugi pun...dalam dunia ni mana ada satu ilmu pun yang merugikan. Malah, for my opinion, it is actually a blessings and a gift from Allah S.W.T.

         Lagi satu bndalah yang aku pantang giler. Naik geram pun ada gak. Pernah x jumpa dgn org yang selalu mempersoalkan guru2 or lecturers pasal "KENAPA KITA KENA BELAJAR BNDA NI EK!? MCM X DE APA2 GUNA PUN..." Haishhh manusia ni...belajar pun salah, x belajar pun salah. Nak juga aku lepuk budak sorang ni. Why do you have to ask that question in the first place? If you don't like it then don't learn it. Just because that something you learn does not have any relation with what are you doing right now, does not mean that it does not impose something meaningful to others.

        For example, in SPM lah yang selalu org argue pasal bnda ni. "Aku nak jadi lawyer, buat apa aku nak tahu pasal fizik?" or "Aku nak jadi engineer, for what I learn Biology for!?" Ishh, wahai shabat2 sekalian. Salah ke kalau kita belajar sesuatu yang mungkin di luar bidang kita? Salah ke? Berdosa ke? Ada ke Tuhan cakap, "Wahai manusia, tuntutlah ilmu yang berkaitan dengan diri kamu sahaja!!". Ada ke? Ada ke? Cuba jawab sikit!!

         Knowledge is something very general. And as a matter of fact, I enjoyed more learning something that's new and not really related to what I'm studying right now. Because why? Because I know that in academic session or during lectures I don't learn that kind of stuff.  It is something that I like to consider as general knowledge and worth knowing! Like I have a friend, she's studying to become a doctor. And my Goodness!!! She knows everything about ENGINEERING!! Like what subjects you have to learn, how competitive the area is....it's just Mindblowing! Even I don't really know much of the details...hehehhee

Jadi, tuntutlah ilmu itu dengan sebanyak yang mungkin. Janganlah nak persoalankan kenapa, kenapa dan mengapa lepas ni ye. Kalau dapat satu ilmu baru tu ucapkanlah alhamdulillah kerana bank ilmu kita bertambah, kalau tak dapat, cari lagi sebanyak yang mungkin.
